Another example for a restaurant that serves traditional Turkish food but with a contemporary twist is Lokanta Yeni. The venue itself is not especially but flashy and hip, but a really nice place for excellent food with a great vibe. The interior is kept simple and elegant, with black/white tiles on the floor, a lot of marble and dim light. The highlights are the green glass lamps hanging from the ceiling above every table. The background is filled with classic music, what altogether creates a really warm atmosphere. But what makes this place really special is its outstanding food. Chef and owner Civan Er redefines traditional Turkish dishes and creates his own, delicious versions of them, which makes his cuisine extraordinary. In his famous manti he replaced the meat with dry eggplant shells that after rehydrating and cooking have the same texture and similar flavour. It comes with a red pepper paste, mint butter, yoghurt and pomegranate molasses. He also offers a lot of delicious small dishes like feta cheese and herps wrapped in wine leaves; as well as really amazing mezes (one of them including their manti…). With the dishes they serve warm sourdough bread made in their stone oven that is delicious. Try to get a table next to the oven to watch the chefs at work!
