Since its opening in 2010, Lokanta Maya has established itself as a key player in Istanbul’s culinary world. Learning at the famous French Culinary Institute in New York, chef Didem Seno has won various gastro awards and has also published her highly praised cookbook Aegean Flavours. In her restaurant she offers contemporary Mediterranean and Aegean flavours in a daily changing menu. Her caramelised sea bass is an all-time-favourite and her zucchini fritters mucver are so popular that she has written the recipe on a mirror as the demand of guests wanting to know it was so massive. The interior is simple and modern, and compared to other venues in Karakoy far more elegant and without the Karakoy-like industrial touch. On the wall there is an piece of art consisting of hundreds of walnuts and there are glasses filled with dried Turkish food and spices, giving it an even rustic touch. A reservation is recommended, especially on the weekends. And don’t forget to have a look at the chef’s cookbook while you wait for your food!
